Using high resolution, high-S/N archival UVES spectra, we have performed a detailed spectroscopic analysis of 4 chemically peculiar HgMn stars (HD 71066, HD 175640, HD 178065 and HD 221507). Using spectrum synthesis, mean photospheric chemical abundances are derived for 22 ions of 16 elements. We find good agreement betwee n our derived abundances and those published previously by other authors. For the 5 el ements that present a sufficient number of suitable lines, we have attempted to detect… Expand
Spectral analysis and abundances of the post-HB star HD 76431
HD76431 is a slow rotating post-HB star that shows an underabundance of helium by 0.5 dex relative to the solar value. These observational facts suggest that atomic diffusion could be active in itsExpand
Project VeSElkA: a search for the vertical stratification of element abundances in HD 157087
The new spectropolarimetric spectra of HD157087 obtained recently with ESPaDOnS at CFHT are analysed to verify the nature of this object. The fundamental stellar parameters $T_{\rm eff}$ = 8882 K,Expand
Project VeSElkA: results of abundance analysis for HD 53929 and HD 63975
Project VeSElkA (Vertical Stratification of Element Abundances) has been initiated with the aim to detect and study the vertical stratification of element abundances in the atmosphere of chemicallyExpand
A search for pulsations in the HgMn star HD 45975 with CoRoT photometry and ground-based spectroscopy ⋆
The existence of pulsations in HgMn stars is still being debated. To provide the first unambiguous observational detecti on of pulsations in this class of chemically peculiar objects, the bright staExpand
An abundance analysis from the STIS-HST UV spectrum of the non-magnetic Bp star HR 6000
The sharp-line spectrum of the Bp star HR 6000 has peculiarities that distinguish it from those of the HgMn stars with which it is sometimes associated. The position of the star close to the centerExpand
Vertical stratification of iron in atmospheres of blue horizontal-branch stars
The aim of this study is to search for observational evidence of vertical iron stratification in the atmosphere of 14 blue horizontal-branch (BHB) stars. We have found from our numerical simulationsExpand
Magnetism, chemical spots, and stratification in the HgMn star ϕ Phoenicis
Mercury-manganese (HgMn) stars belong to the class of chemically peculiar (CP) stars. It was recently discovered that some HgMn stars have spots of chemical elements on their surfaces. According toExpand
Project VeSElkA: results of abundance analysis I – HD 71030, HD 95608, HD 116235 and HD 186568
A portion of main-sequence stars, called chemically peculiar (CP) stars, show important abundance anomalies mainly due to atomic diffusion of the species within these stars. Certain CP stars haveExpand
Project VeSElkA: abundance analysis of chemical species in HD 41076 and HD 148330
A new semi-automatic approach is employed to carry out the abundance analysis of high-resolution spectra of HD41076 and HD148330 obtained recently with the spectropolarimetre ESPaDOnS at the CFHT.Expand
Chemical surface inhomogeneities in late B-type stars with Hg and Mn peculiarity - I. Spot evolution in HD 11753 on short and long time scales
Aims: Time series of high-resolution spectra of the late B-type star HD 11753 exhibiting HgMn chemical peculiarity are used to study the surface distribution of different chemical elements and theirExpand

Abundances and chemical stratification analysis in the atmosphere of Cr-type Ap star HD 204411
We present results of an abundance and stratification analysis of the weakly magnetic chemically peculiar star HD 204411 based on the echelle spectrum obtained with the high resolution spectrographExpand
Vertical abundance stratification in the blue horizontal branch star HD 135485
Context. It is commonly believed that the observed overabundances of many chemical species relative to the expected cluster metallicity in blue horizontal branch (BHB) stars appear as a result ofExpand
Search for vertical stratification of metals in atmospheres of blue horizontal-branch stars
Context. The observed abundance peculiarities of many chemical species relative to the expected cluster metallicity in blue horizontalbranch (BHB) stars presumably appear as a result of atomicExpand
Vertical distribution of chromium in the atmospheres of HgMn stars
We use multiplet 30 Crii lines in the wings of H to test the hypothesis of an anomalous concentration of Cr in the upper layers of the atmospheres of a sample of 10 HgMn stars. These lines are atExpand
Chemical abundances in Hg-Mn stars
An abundance analysis has been conducted of 21 elements in 21 Hg-Mn, two Si-Cr, and six normal stars using model atmospheres and high-dispersion spectroscopy in the visible and ultraviolet. The starsExpand
Inhomogeneous surface distribution of chemical elements in the eclipsing binary AR Aur: a new challenge for our understanding of HgMn stars*
We present the results of a high spectral resolution study of the eclipsing binary AR Aur. AR Aur is the only known eclipsing binary with a HgMn primary star exactly on the zero-age main sequenceExpand
