We report the new functionality of room temperature ferromagnetism in CuO-ZnO heterostructures. Magnetic measurement results indicate the CuO-ZnO heterostructures show enhanced ferromagnetism contrary to the pure CuO (ZnO) and the observed ferromagnetism is proportional to the interface counts for the film-heterostructures, providing proof of interface related ferromagnetism. Our study suggests that magnetically functional interfaces could be an entirely new and novel design of magnetic…

Electronic Structure and Ferromagnetism Modulation in Cu/Cu2O Interface: Impact of Interfacial Cu Vacancy and Its Diffusion
TLDR
First principles calculations are performed on the interface structure to explore the microscopic mechanism of the FM and provide insights into the FM mechanism and tuning the FM via interfacial cation diffusion in the Cu/Cu2O contact.
Effects of Copper Dopants on the Magnetic Property of Lightly Cu-Doped ZnO Nanocrystals
TLDR
Results indicate that Cu ions can enhance the long-range ferromagnetic ordering at an ultralow concentration, but antiferromagnetic “Cu+-Vo-Cu2+” couples may also be generated, even at a very low Cu-doping concentration.

TLDR
Comparison of x-ray absorption spectra of ZMO with those of ZnO epilayers at O K-, Zn K-, and L 3-edges indicates that the substitution of the Zn site with Mn enhances the charge-transfer (CT) transition and the presence ofZn vacancies (VZn) also dominate the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum, implying that the formation of numerous VZn defects plays an important role in activating FM interactions.

Interface mediated ferromagnetism in bulk CuO/Cu2O composites
In this letter, we report the interface-related room temperature ferromagnetism in bulk CuO/Cu2O composites which were synthesized by heat-decomposing or oxidation methods with the CuO and Cu2O as
Emergent ferromagnetism in ZnO/Al2O3 core-shell nanowires: Towards oxide spinterfaces
We report that room-temperature ferromagnetism emerges at the interface formed between ZnO nanowire core and Al2O3 shell although both constituents show mainly diamagnetism. The interface-based
Room-temperature ferromagnetism in antiferromagnetic cobalt oxide nanooctahedra.
TLDR
The nearly perfectly octahedral shaped particles with 20, 40, and 85 nm edge length show a weak room-temperature ferromagnetism that can be attributed to ferromagnetic correlations appearing due to strained lattice configurations at the CoO/Co3O4 interface.
Surface magnetism in ZnO/Co3O4 mixtures
We recently reported the observation of room temperature ferromagnetism in mixtures of ZnO and Co3O4 despite the diamagnetic and antiferromagnetic character of these oxides, respectively. Here, we
Interface double-exchange ferromagnetism in the Mn-Zn-O system: new class of biphase magnetism.
In this Letter, we experimentally show that the room temperature ferromagnetism in the Mn-Zn-O system recently observed is associated with the coexistence of Mn(3+) and Mn(4+) via a double-exchange
Room-temperature ferromagnetism of Cu-doped ZnO films probed by soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.
TLDR
It is found that a sufficient amount of both oxygen vacancies (V(O)) and Cu impurities is essential to the observed ferromagnetism, and a non-negligible portion of Cu impurity is uninvolved in the magnetic order.

TLDR
Results from first-principles calculations on the magnetism at the BiFeO3/YBa2Cu3O7 interfaces show that a metallic ferromagnetism is induced near the interface, confirmed by the presence of a hysteresis loop in field-dependent magnetization data.
