ABSTRACT Dasineura mali Kieffer (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is an important pest of young apple trees in New Zealand and a serious quarantine pest in Asia, Australia, and western United States. Platygaster demades Walker (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) is a parasitoid of D. mali. The developmental period of the parasitoid is longer than that of D. mail, suggesting a possible asynchrony between the two species in the field. Prior to the present study, this parasitoid was considered laying eggs only…
Parasitism and phenology of Dasineura mali (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) in Canadian apple (Rosaceae) orchards
TLDR
Molecular analysis indicated that Nova Scotia populations are genetically different from Ontario and British Columbia populations, and pheromone trap captures, oviposition on growing apple terminals, and the incidence of third instars indicate three D. mali generations in each province.
New family-level characters for Platygastroidea
Platygastridae (Hymenoptera) is a diverse family of parasitoid wasps for which few studies of internal morphology have been conducted. The monophyly of the group is undisputed based on recently

Phenological Dynamics of Dasineura mali (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) and Its Parasitoid Platygaster demades (Hymenoptera: Platygasteridae) in Apple Orchards
TLDR
The results suggest that P. demades contributes to the continuous decline of D. mali numbers in the field; it is a good searcher, particularly when its hosts become increasingly scarcer over the season, and it avoids overshooting the host population later in the season by increasing superparasitism.
Demographic dynamics of Platygaster demades in response to host density
Laboratory induction and termination of aestivation in Platygaster demades Walker, an important parasitoid of Dasineura mali Kieffer
TLDR
The results show that the highest proportion of P. demades individuals entered aestivation at 14:10 h (L:D) and 25 °C with the critical day-length and temperature for aestivation induction being 13.8 h light and 22.8 °C, and the best aestivation termination condition was 12 h light + 15 °C.
Systematics, evolution, and biology of scelionid and platygastrid wasps.
TLDR
The Trissolcus basalis-Nezara viridula parasitoid-host association has become a favored model system in ecological, behavioral, and physiological research on insects.
Developmental biology and field performance of Platygaster diplosisae Risbec (Hymn: Platygasteridae) an egg-larval parasitoid of african rice gall midge Orseolia oryzivora Harris and Gagné (Diptera: Cecidoymiidae)
TLDR
The results showed that P. diplosisae has an impact as a bio-control agent of AfRGM, but the percentage parasitism of the host was low at the beginning of the season and increased significantly later in the season with a peak in October of each season.
Aestivation in apple leaf-curling midge (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) parasitoid, Platygaster demades Walker (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae)
TLDR
The emergence patterns of overwintered parasitoids and ALCM were highly synchronized in the following season.
Aspects of the Foraging Behaviour of Tetrastichus Asparagi Crawford and Tetrastichus Spec. (Eulophidae), Gregarious Egg Parasitoids of the Asparagus Beetles Crioceris Asparagi L. and C. Duodecimpunctata L. (Chrysomelidae)
TLDR
Two Tetrastichus species are gregarious and lay about six eggs per oviposition, and are able to discriminate between unparasitized and parasitized hosts, and reject parasitizedhosts after antennation or after probing with the ovipositor.
Phenology of apple leafcurling midge ( Dasineura mali ) in relation to parasitism by Platygaster demades
TLDR
The phenology of apple leafcurling midge (ALCM) and that of its parasitoid, Platygaster demades, was monitored in orchards over several years in the Nelson district to develop a model to predict generation timing.
Host Location and Ovipositional Behavior of Platygaster demades Walker (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae), an Egg Parasitoid of Apple and Pear Leaf Curling Midges
TLDR
The results indicate that P. demades utilizes plant cues to locate the habitat of its host and then searches for host eggs to parasitize, and responds equally to both apple and pear odors.
