The discovery of superconductivity in hole-doped infinite-layer NdNiO2 — a transition metal (TM) oxide that is both isostructural and isoelectronic to cuprate superconductors—has lead to renewed enthusiasm in the hope of understanding the origin of unconventional superconductivity. Here, we investigate the electron-removal states in infinite-layered Ni1+ oxide, NdNiO2, which mimics hole doping, with the state-of-the-art many-body multireference quantum chemistry methods. From the analysis of…

Electronic and magnetic structure of infinite-layer NdNiO2: trace of antiferromagnetic metal

The recent discovery of Sr-doped infinite-layer nickelate NdNiO2 offers a new platform for investigating unconventional superconductivity in nickelate-based compounds. Most intriguingly, the

Ab initio computation of d-d excitation energies in low-dimensional Ti and V oxychlorides

Using a quantum chemical cluster-in-solid computational scheme, we calculate the local d-d excitation energies for two strongly correlated Mott insulators, the oxychlorides TiOCl and VOCl. TiOCl

Doping evolution of the Mott–Hubbard landscape in infinite-layer nickelates

State-of-the-art, locally resolved electron energy-loss spectroscopy is used to directly probe the Mott–Hubbard character of Nd1−xSrxNiO2, providing direct evidence for the multiband electronic structure of the superconducting infinite-layer nickelates.

Energy and symmetry of dd excitations in undoped layered cuprates measured by Cu L3 resonant inelastic x-ray scattering

We measured the high-resolution Cu L3 edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) of undoped cuprates La2CuO4, Sr2CuO2Cl2, CaCuO2 and NdBa2Cu3O6. The dominant spectral features were assigned to

Enhancement of superexchange due to synergetic breathing and hopping in corner-sharing cuprates

Cuprates with corner-sharing CuO 4 plaquettes have received much attention owing to the discoveries of high-temperature superconductivity and exotic states where spin and charge or spin and orbital

Ab initio determination of excitation energies and magnetic couplings in correlated, quasi two-dimensional iridates

To determine the strength of essential electronic and magnetic interactions in the iridates Sr2IrO4 and Ba2IrO4—potential platforms for high-temperature superconductivity—we use many-body techniques

Kitaev interactions between j = 1/2 moments in honeycomb Na2IrO3 are large and ferromagnetic: insights from ab initio quantum chemistry calculations

Na2IrO3, a honeycomb 5d5 oxide, has been recently identified as a potential realization of the Kitaev spin lattice. The basic feature of this spin model is that for each of the three metal–metal

Crystal-field splitting and correlation effect on the electronic structure of A2IrO3.

The electronic structure of the honeycomb lattice iridates Na(2)IrO(3) and Li(2), which have been investigated using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS), suggest that both can be described as spin-orbit Mott insulators, similar to the square lattice IrO(4).

Character of Doped Holes in Nd1−xSrxNiO2

We investigate charge distribution in the recently discovered high-Tc superconductors, layered nickelates. With increasing value of charge-transfer energy, we observe the expected crossover from the

Ab Initio determination of Cu 3d orbital energies in layered copper oxides

A novel ab initio quantum chemical computational scheme determines energies for a range of copper-oxides and -oxychlorides, determine trends with the apical Cu–ligand distances and finds excellent agreement with recent Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering measurements.
