OBJECTIVE To determine whether adult articular cartilage mineralizes in the presence of ATP. METHODS Intact adult porcine articular cartilage and monolayers of chondrocytes were cultured in physiologic media containing ATP, and mineralization was measured as retention of 45Ca.
