  • This article describes a low-cost method to use assisted GPS (AGPS) carried over a Short Messaging Service (SMS) to create a system for locating wireless phones-without large amounts of additional hardware and software. The assistance server operates outside the cell phone network and takes off much of the computational burden for making location calculations, speeding time to first fix (TTFF) and reducing the amount of power consumed by the system.
