Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus Stapf.) is a common herb used in cooking and recognized for its many health benefits. This study measured the antioxidant activity and citral content in lemongrass extracts made from air-dried and fresh plants by decoction and infusion. The plants were collected from one area each from three different municipalities in Iloilo (Pavia, Jaro and Lapaz) and two baranggays in Buenavista, Guimaras (Brgy. Daragan and Brgy. San Isidro). All plant extracts have…

Evaluation of the Chemical Composition of Brazilian Commercial Cymbopogon citratus (D.C.) Stapf Samples
TLDR
The process of grinding the leaves significantly decreased the essential oil content, as well as the percentage of myrcene in the oils, which led to identification of 22 compounds, with neral and geranial as the two major components.
Antimicrobial activity and potential use of monoterpenes as tropical fruits preservatives
TLDR
Citral was the most effective of the oils tested and showed potent fungicidal activity at concentrations above 0.5%.

TLDR
The volatile essential oils of commonly used culinary herbs, spices, and herbal teas inhibit mevalonate synthesis and thereby suppress cholesterol synthesis and tumor growth.
Citral is a new inducer of caspase-3 in tumor cell lines.
TLDR
Concentrations of 44.5 muM, comparable to the concentration of citral in a cup of tea prepared from 1 g of lemon grass, induced apoptosis in several hematopoietic cancer cell lines, accompanied by DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 catalytic activity induction.
Inhibitory effects of lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus Stapf) on formation of azoxymethane-induced DNA adducts and aberrant crypt foci in the rat colon.
TLDR
It is suggested that the lemon grass extract inhibits the release of activated aglycon, methylazoxymethanol, from a glucuronide conjugate in the colon, and decreases the DNA adducts and ACF formation in the rat colon.
Anti-Clastogenic Effects of Citral
TLDR
Results show that citral had significantly decreased the frequency of MN induced by the three clastogens in bone marrow and peripheral blood erythrocytes.
