ANNIE: a simulated neural network for empirical studies and application prototyping

Abstract

In this paper, we provide background information on the theory and applications of neural networks, and define the role of a simulated neural network package ANNIE (Artificial Neural Network Integrated Environment) which we developed in order to support our theoretical studies with empirical investigations and to prototype applications. Then we discuss the development of ANNIE, including a description of the user environment and the validation procedure. Finally, we present ~results of our application prototyping activities in the areas of communication system signal detection and robot manipulator control.
