In this study a new approach was proposed to determine optimum parameters of a protective spur dike to mitigate scouring depth amount around existing main spur dikes. The studied parameters were angle of the protective spur dike relative to the flume wall, its length, and its distance from the main spur dikes, flow intensity, and the diameters of the sediment particles that were explored to find the optimum amounts. In prediction phase, a novel hybrid approach was developed, combining adaptive…

Reduction of Local Scouring with Protective Spur Dike
One of the main parameters in design of spur dikes is the estimation of local scour depth around their tail. Spur dikes are usually built in series and their stability depends on the stability of the
Applying Wavelets to Short-Term Load Forecasting Using PSO-Based Neural Networks
A particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to adjust the network's weights in the training phase of the ANNs to create a more reliable forecasting model.
Verification of numerical study of scour around spur dikes using experimental data
Scour phenomenon around a series of impermeable, nonsubmerged spur dikes has been investigated with both experimental and numerical methods. The experiments were conducted under different states of
Spur Failure in River Engineering
Spurs are river engineering elements used to protect river banks from erosion and to concentrate flow to the river axis. Today, spurs are also employed for promoting environmental conditions along a
