We report here the discovery of the first planet around an ultracool dwarf star. It is also the first extrasolar giant planet astrometrically discovered around a main-sequence star. The statistical significance of the detection is shown in two ways. First, there is a 2 × 10−8 probability that the astrometric motion fits a parallax-and-proper-motion-only model. Second, periodogram analysis shows a false alarm probability of 3 × 10−5 that the discovered period is randomly generated. The planetary…

Strong Constraints to the Putative Planet Candidate around VB 10 Using Doppler Spectroscopy

We present new radial velocity (RV) measurements of the ultra-cool dwarf VB 10, which was recently announced to host a giant planet detected with astrometry. The new observations were obtained using

Hubble Space Telescope astrometry of the closest brown dwarf binary system - I. Overview and improved orbit

Located at ~2pc, the L7.5+T0.5 dwarfs system WISE J104915.57-531906.1 (Luhman16AB) is the third closest system known to Earth, making it a key benchmark for detailed investigation of brown dwarf

A 3D SEARCH FOR COMPANIONS TO 12 NEARBY M DWARFS

We present a carefully vetted equatorial (±30 ° ?> decl.) sample of all known single (within 4″) mid M dwarfs (M2.5 V–M8.0 V) extending out to 10 pc; their proximity and low masses make them ideal

ASTROMETRY AND RADIAL VELOCITIES OF THE PLANET HOST M DWARF GJ 317: NEW TRIGONOMETRIC DISTANCE, METALLICITY, AND UPPER LIMIT TO THE MASS OF GJ 317b

We have obtained precision astrometry of the planet host M dwarf GJ 317 in the framework of the Carnegie Astrometric Planet Search project. The new astrometric measurements give a distance

The Carnegie Astrometric Planet Search Program

We are undertaking an astrometric search for gas giant planets and brown dwarfs orbiting nearby low-mass dwarf stars with the 2.5 m du Pont Telescope at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. We have

The CARMENES search for exoplanets around M dwarfs

Context. The interaction between Earth-like exoplanets and the magnetic field of low-mass host stars are considered to produce weak emission signals at radio frequencies. A study using LOFAR data

Search For Gas Giants Around Late-m Dwarfs

We carried out a near-infrared radial velocity search for Jupiter-mass planets around 36 late M dwarfs. This survey was the first of its kind undertaken to monitor radial velocity variability of

The Possible Astrometric Signature of a Planetary-mass Companion to the Nearby Young Star TW Piscis Austrini (Fomalhaut B): Constraints from Astrometry, Radial Velocities, and Direct Imaging

We present constraints on the presence of substellar companions to the nearby (d ∼ 7.6 pc) young (440 ± 40 Myr) K4Ve star TW Piscis Austrini, the wide (∼0.3 pc) companion to the A4V star Fomalhaut.

Results of the SARG survey for planets in binaries

Since the discovery of the first planetary mass companion around a pulsar star (Wolszczan and Frail 1992) and shortly after around a star similar to our Sun (51 Peg Mayor and Queloz 1995), many steps

A COLD NEPTUNE-MASS PLANET OGLE-2007-BLG-368Lb: Cold neptunes are common

We present the discovery of a Neptune-mass planet OGLE-2007-BLG-368Lb with a planet–star mass ratio of q = [9.5 ± 2.1] × 10−5 via gravitational microlensing. The planetary deviation was detected in

A Long‐Period Jupiter‐Mass Planet Orbiting the Nearby M Dwarf GJ 849

We report precise Doppler measurements of GJ 849 (M3.5 V) that reveal the presence of a planet with a minimum mass of 0.82MJup in a 5.16 yr orbit. At a = 2.35 AU, GJ 849b is the first
