The actions of the putative quisqualate-selective agonist DL-alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionic acid (AMPA) were examined in identified embryonic chick motoneurons using gigaseal recording techniques and compared with properties of the selective non-NMDA excitatory amino acid agonists kainate and quisqualate.
