Galaxies are believed to experience star formation and black-hole-driven nuclear activity symbiotically. The symbiosis may be more extreme in the distant universe, as far-infrared photometry with the Herschel Space Observatory has found many cases of ultraluminous cool dust emission in z > 1 radio galaxies and quasars, which could have its origin in the central black hole activity, or in extreme starbursts. We here present strong evidence for an extreme circumnuclear starburst in the z = 1.439…

A Spatially Resolved Survey of Distant Quasar Host Galaxies. II. Photoionization and Kinematics of the ISM
We present detailed observations of photoionization conditions and galaxy kinematics in 11 z = 1.39–2.59 radio-loud quasar host galaxies. Data were taken with the OSIRIS integral field spectrograph
Multiphase Outflows in High-redshift Quasar Host Galaxies
We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of six radio-loud quasar host galaxies at z = 1.4–2.3. We combine the kiloparsec-scale resolution ALMA observations with
A Spatially Resolved Survey of Distant Quasar Host Galaxies. I. Dynamics of Galactic Outflows
We present observations of ionized gas outflows in 11 z = 1.39–2.59 radio-loud quasar host galaxies. Data were taken with the integral field spectrograph OSIRIS and the adaptive optics system at the
Millimeter-wave Point Sources from the 2500 Square Degree SPT-SZ Survey: Catalog and Population Statistics
We present a catalog of emissive point sources detected in the SPT-SZ survey, a contiguous 2530 square degree area surveyed with the South Pole Telescope (SPT) from 2008–2011 in three bands centered

Starburst-driven Superwinds in Quasar Host Galaxies
During the past five decades astronomers have been puzzled by the presence of strong absorption features including metal lines, observed in the optical and ultraviolet spectra of quasars, signaling
EXTREME HOST GALAXY GROWTH IN POWERFUL EARLY-EPOCH RADIO GALAXIES
During the first half of the universe's life, a heyday of star formation must have occurred because many massive galaxies are in place after that epoch in cosmic history. Our observations with the
Star formation in z > 1 3CR host galaxies as seen by Herschel
We present Herschel (PACS and SPIRE) far-infrared (FIR) photometry of a complete sample of z> 1 3CR sources, from the Herschel guaranteed time project The Herschel Legacy of distant radio-loud AGN.
Triggered Star Formation in a Massive Galaxy at z = 3.8: 4C 41.17
We present deep spectropolarimetric observations obtained with the W. M. Keck Telescope of the very high redshift (z = 3.79786 ± 0.0024) radio galaxy 4C 41.17. We find that the bright, spatially
