ALGOL 68 is a new programming language, designed by Working Group 2.1 of IFIP—the body that produced the 1962 revision of ALGOL 60. This paper, which is intended for the reader with some familiarity with ALGOL 60, is intended as a guide to the new language, emphasising particularly the new features which give it its great power. Many implementations of ALGOL 68 are under way, and the one implementation actually running has successfully compiled this paper. (Received October 1971)
