Among the potential etiologies of AIDS CM are HIV-1, various opportunistic infections, inflammatory reactions, cytokine effects, and cardiotoxicity of prescribed or illicit drugs. The transgenic mouse (TG) offers a unique in vivo way to elucidate mechanisms of AIDS CM.
