The paradigm for AGN unification is reviewed, in terms of its optical manifestation as obscuration in the equatorial plane and its radio manifestation as relativistic beaming of the jet emission. Within this paradigm, observed AGN properties depend strongly on orientation angle. The predictions of unification are commensurate with the local numbers of AGN of various types. The outstanding question concerns a possible population of obscured AGN at high redshift, which are thought to produce the…

Distant radio galaxies and their environments
We review the properties and nature of luminous high-redshift radio galaxies (HzRGs, z > 2) and the environments in which they are located. HzRGs have several distinct constituents which interact
Spectra of high-energy neutrinos and AGN population evolution inferred by X-ray/γ-ray surveys
In this thesis I investigate the evolution of high-energy neutrinos, and their ability to diagnose the environment of their origin. AGN are identified as candidates for high-energy neutrino
Basic considerations for the observability of kinematically offset binary AGN
The gravitational waves from Massive black-hole (MBH) binaries are expected to be detected by pulsar timing arrays in the next few years. While they are a promising source for multimessenger
The variability of warm absorbers in Active Galactic Nuclei
This thesis presents three studies of warm (photoionized) absorber variability in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) using high-resolution X-ray spectra provided by the Chandra High Energy Transmission
Extragalactic Radio Quasars: Consequences of the Luminosity/ Redshift Relationship
We have used both analytical and statistical methods to show some plausible consequences of the luminosity/redshift relationships for compact steep spectrum (CSS) quasars and the more extended
Extragalactic Radio Sources: Jet/Lobe Internal Pressure and Consequences
In this work, we use analytical methods to describe expansion of Extragalactic Radio Sources (EGRS). Result shows that source size expansion depends on the following parameters: age of the source,
Investigating Multiwavelength Lognormality with Simulations: Case of Mrk 421
Blazars are highly variable and display complex characteristics. A key characteristic is the flux probability distribution function or flux PDF whose shape depends upon the form of the underlying
Fundamental Cosmological Observations and Data Interpretation
The last decades have seen an exponential increase of experiments and observations aimed at establishing the structure, the evolution, and the constituents of the Universe, covering essentially the
Search for populations of unresolved sources of high energy neutrinos with the ANTARES neutrino telescope

Structure and dynamics of elliptical galaxies
The article reviews the modelling of elliptical galaxies, centred on the question of their overall mass distribution and intrinsic symmetry and also taking into account the three major issues of
