Arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) are required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) to further reduce the hazards resulting from residential electrical fires. The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1699 Standard contains the testing and certification requirements for various types of AFCIs.
