ACUTE TOXICITY AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PARINARI CURATELLIFOLLIA ROOT METHANOLIC EXTRACT IN CARBON TETRACHLORIDE-INDUCED TOXICITY IN WISTAR RATS
@inproceedings{Atawodi2013ACUTETA, title={ACUTE TOXICITY AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PARINARI CURATELLIFOLLIA ROOT METHANOLIC EXTRACT IN CARBON TETRACHLORIDE-INDUCED TOXICITY IN WISTAR RATS}, author={Atawodi}, year={2013} }
The present study is aimed at evaluating the toxicological and antioxidant activity of Parinari curatellifolia (P.C) methanolic root extract on oxidative stress induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats. The degree of treatment in this activity has been measured by using biochemical parameters such as serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in tissues and serum…

Oral pre-treatment with ethanolic extract of the roots of C. carandas showed significant hepatoprotective activity against CCl4 and paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity, and showed that ERCC possessed strong antioxidant activity, which may probably lead to the promising hepatoprotsective activities of C-carandas root extract.

- Biology, Medicine

It is suggested that methanol extract of Bauhinia racemosa (MEBR) could protect the liver cells from paracetamol and CCl4-induced liver damages perhaps, by its antioxidative effect on hepatocytes, hence eliminating the deleterious effects of toxic metabolites from par acetamol or CCl 4.

The results suggest that pinoresinol ameliorates CCl4)-induced acute liver injury, and this protection is likely due to anti-oxidative activity and down-regulation of inflammatory mediators through inhibition of NF-kappaB and AP-1.

It is concluded that biologically available peptides are taken up in target organs and stimulate GSH metabolism and contribute to a more effective detoxification phenotype, thus providing enhanced chemoprotective capacity.
