}Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most frequent sexually transmitted viral infection. It is necessary to know HPV genotype distribution to identify how many women will be protected by HPV vaccines. During a period of 18 months, we have analyzed 2362 HPV positive reporting data from a secondary demand screening program in three regions in Spain (Cantabria, Leon and Burgos). The study has been conducted using polymerase chain reaction and tube array hybridization covering the 35 HPV genotypes…

HPV 16 was the most frequent genotype in this area, followed by HPV 53 and 31, with a low prevalence of HPV 18 even in HSILs, with the frequency of genotypes 16, 52 and 58 increased significantly from ASCUS toHSILs.

Among high-risk HPVs, HPV 16 was the most common HPV detected in the population with a very low prevalence of HPV 18, and HPV 6 and then HPV 11 had the most prevalence rate in the women with uterine cervix (cervical) infection among low- risk HPVs.
Importance of Different Hpv Genotypes in the Development of Cervical Cancer
- Medicine, Biology

High-risk genotypes like papilloma virus 31, 51, 53 and 58 were isolated more frequently than HPV 18 in this study and in a review of the literature, in women with precancerous and cancerous lesions in uterine cervix, suggesting the loss effectiveness of the vaccine in certain circumstances.
Genotype distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) and co-infections in cervical cytologic specimens from two outpatient gynecological clinics in a region of southeast Spain
- Medicine, BiologyBMC infectious diseases

Genotypes belonging to A5, A7 and A9 species are more often found as co-infections than genotype pertaining to A6 species, which suggests that phylogenetically related genotypes might have in common similar grades of dependency for cervical epithelium colonization.
Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Genotypes and Multiple Infections in Routine Cervical Cancer Screening in a Spanish Regional Population
- Medicine, Biology
- 2013
The results indicate that prevalence of HPV infection in women attending routine cervical cancer screening is high and confirm the importance of identifying the types of HPV that affect this community to design more effective prevention strategies and thus contribute to the fight against cervical cancer and its precursor lesions.
Genotype Distribution Change After Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in Two Autonomous Communities in Spain

The distribution of the HPV genotypes after the introduction of the vaccination program with Cervarix and Gardasil 4 in two autonomous communities in Spain is reviewed, looking for possible changes in distribution and the occurrence of a herd effect.

Age, age of first sex, multiple sexual partners and pregnancies were the risk factors for HPV infection in women without lesions, and HPV16 was the most prevalent genotype regardless of cytological status followed by HPV70 in Women without lesions and HPV33 among those with lesions.
