In this second paper of a series, we present a treatment procedure for data cubes obtained with the Spectrograph for Integral Field Observations in the Near Infrared of the Very Large Telescope. We verified that the treatment procedure improves significantly the quality of the images of the data cubes, allowing a more detailed analysis. The images of the Br$\gamma$ and H$_2 \lambda 21218$ emission lines from the treated data cube of the nuclear region of NGC 5643 reveal the existence of ionized…

The nuclear region of NGC 613 – I. Multiwavelength analysis

In this paper, we report a detailed study with a variety of data from optical, near-infrared, X-ray, and radio telescopes of the nuclear region of the galaxy NGC 613 with the aim of understanding its

NGC 1566: analysis of the nuclear region from optical and near-infrared Integral Field Unit spectroscopy

We analysed the centre of NGC 1566, which hosts a well-studied active galactic nucleus (AGN), known for its variability. With the aid of techniques such as Principal Component Analysis Tomography,

The nuclear architecture of NGC 4151: on the path toward a universal outflow mechanism in light of NGC 1068

We report near-infrared integral field spectroscopic observations of the active galactic nucleus NGC 4151 with archive data from the NIFS-Gemini North Telescope. We have selected best-seeing

A two-stage outflow in NGC 1068

We present an analysis of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 with archive data from SINFONI-VLT, in the HK bands with pixel scales of 0.1 (data set 1 - DS1) and 0.025 (DS2) arcsec. The data are revisited

The highly obscured Seyfert 2 nucleus in NGC 1448 observed with MUSE

We present the analysis of an optical data cube of the central region of NGC 1448, obtained with the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE). Chandra X-ray data indicate that the active galactic

The MAGNUM survey: Positive feedback in the nuclear region of NGC 5643 suggested by MUSE

We study the ionization and kinematics of the ionized gas in the nuclear region of the barred Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC~5643 using MUSE integral field observations in the framework of the MAGNUM

We analyze an optical data cube of the nuclear region of NGC 3621, taken with the integral field unit of the Gemini Multi-object Spectrograph. We found that the previously detected central line

The nuclear environment of NGC 2442: a Compton-thick low-luminosity AGN

The detailed study of nuclear regions of galaxies is important because it can help understanding the active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback mechanisms, the connections between the nuclei and their

Optical and near-infrared IFU spectroscopy of the nuclear region of the AGN-starburst galaxy NGC 7582

NGC 7582 is an SB(s)ab galaxy which displays evidences of simultaneous nuclear activity and star formation in its centre. Previous optical observations revealed, besides the H II regions, an

Digging process in NGC 6951: the molecular disc bumped by the jet

We present a study of the central 200 pc of the galaxy NGC 6951, SAB(rs)bc, an active twin of the Milky Way, at a distance of 24 Mpc. Its nucleus has been observed in the optical with the GMOS-IFU,

A treatment procedure for Gemini North/NIFS data cubes: application to NGC 4151

We present a detailed procedure for treating data cubes obtained with the Near-Infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) of the Gemini North telescope. This process includes the following steps:

A One-sided Ionization Cone in the Seyfert 2 Galaxy NGC 5643

We present high-resolution (0.″1) observations of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 5643 taken with the WFPC2 on board the Hubble Space Telescope. Images taken in the light of [O III] λ5007 and Hα reveal a

The Central Parsecs of Centaurus A: High-excitation Gas, a Molecular Disk, and the Mass of the Black Hole

We present two-dimensional gas-kinematic maps of the central region in Centaurus A. The adaptive optics (AO) assisted SINFONI data from the VLT have a resolution of 0.12″ in K band. The ionized gas

Adaptive Optics for Astronomy

It is shown that adaptive optics has led to important advances in the authors' understanding of a multitude of astrophysical processes, and how the requirements from science applications are now driving the development of the next generation of novel adaptive optics techniques.

The velocity fields and radio structures of the active galaxies NGC 5643 and NGC 7582

On presente les champs des vitesses obtenus par TAURUS pour les deux galaxies de Seyfert spirales barrees NGC 5643 et NGC 7582 et les cartes du continuum radio de NGC 5643. Les deux galaxies

The effects of atmospheric differential refraction on astronomical measurements are much more important than is generally assumed. In particular, it is shown that relative line and continuum

This chapter introduces the subject of statistical pattern recognition (SPR). It starts by considering how features are defined and emphasizes that the nearest neighbor algorithm achieves error rates

Bayesian-Based Iterative Method of Image Restoration

An iterative method of restoring degraded images was developed by treating images, point spread functions, and degraded images as probability-frequency functions and by applying Bayes’s theorem. The

First light of SINFONI at the VLT

17 T he ESO STC recommended the construction of SINFONI (“Spectrograph for INtegral Field Observation in the Near-Infrared”) in October 1997. The instrument was conceived as the combination of an
