The taxonomy of the amphipod family Leucothoidae has been reviewed and changes are proposed. Currently, there are 139 described species of leucothoids in two clades. The anamixid clade contains 39 species and the leucothoid clade contains 100 species. For the first time in a single work, diagnoses, distributions, and available host data are presented for all extant species of the Leucothoidae. The genus Leucothoella has been suppressed based on morphological similarities to the genus Leucothoe…
An analysis of the genus Leucothoe Leach, 1814 (Amphipoda: Leucothoidae) in New Zealand, with the description of two new species symbiotic with ascidians and sponges
TLDR
A key to the New Zealand species of Leucothoe as well as a discussion of their host-specificity and ecology are also provided.
NA phylogeny of Ryukyus Leucothoidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda)
TLDR
It is demonstrated that host specificity appears to evolve rapidly in sibling species in this family of amphipods and the separation of the family into two clades is confirmed.
DNA phylogeny of Ryukyus Leucothoidae ( Crustacea : Amphipoda )
Commensal leucothoid amphipods collected from sponges, ascidians, and coral rubble from the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan, were investigated using nuclear 18S ribosomal DNA sequences. Analysis of
A New Species of the Genus Anamixis (Amphipoda: Leucothoidae) from the Gulf of California, Mexico
Abstract A new species of the genus Anamixis Stebbing, 1897 is herein described. The material was obtained from a collector of puerulus larvae of spiny lobsters, anchored at Punta Coyote, Gulf of
A Phylogeny and Classification of the Amphipoda with the establishment of the new order Ingolfiellida (Crustacea: Peracarida).
TLDR
A cladistic tree, based on morphology, is presented illustrating the relationships of the Amphipoda at parvorder level.
Leucothoe eltoni sp. n., a new species of commensal leucothoid amphipod from coral reefs in Raja Ampat, Indonesia (Crustacea, Amphipoda)
Abstract A new species of leucothoid amphipod, Leucothoe eltoni sp. n., is described from coral reefs in Raja Ampat, Indonesia where it inhabits the branchial chambers of solitary tunicates. With an
Amphipoda (crustacea) from Palau, Micronesia: families Dexaminidae, Eusiridae, Hyalidae, Ischyroceridae, Leucothoidae and Lysianassidae.
TLDR
Thirteen species of amphipod in the families Dexaminidae, Eusiridae, Hyalidae, Ischyroceridae, Leucothoidae, and Lysianassidae are recorded from Palau in Micronesia and are new to science and are described and figured.
Leucothoe kawesqari, a new amphipod from Bernardo O’Higgins National Park (Chile), with remarks on the genus in the Magellan Region (Crustacea, Peracarida)
TLDR
A new species of Leucothoe kawesqari is described, which can be distinguished from other species of the genus in the Southern Ocean by having eyes present, epimeral plates with no setae, anterior coxae not acutely produced or excavate.
Commensal Leucothoidae (Crustacea, Amphipoda) of the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Part I: ascidian-dwellers
TLDR
Seven new species are described in two genera with valuable location data and host records of ascidian-dwelling Leucothoidae of the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan.
Commensal Leucothoidae (Crustacea, Amphipoda) of the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Part II: sponge-dwellers
TLDR
Eleven new species are described in the genus Leucothoe with valuable location data and host records and an identification key to sponge-dwelling LeucOTHoidae of the Ryukyu Archipelago is provided.
