AIMS The APOBEC (apolipoprotein B mRNA-editing catalytic polypeptide) family of cytidine deaminases inhibits the mobility of diverse retroviruses, retrotransposons and other viruses. This group of apolipoproteins is widely distributed in living organisms and plays a central role in diverse enzymatic pathways.
