Clinical experts have expressed concern about underutilization of sickle cell disease (SCD) therapies, including hydroxyurea, prophylactic antibiotics, iron chelation, bone marrow transplantation, pain management during vaso-occlusive crisis, and receipt of routine ambulatory health care.
