Packing of the nasal cavity following routine nasal surgery is a common but controversial practice. We aimed to evaluate nasal packing practices among UK ENT consultants for common nasal operations. A questionnaire was sent to 648 consultant ENT surgeons regarding their packing practice in patients undergoing nasal surgery. Data were collected regarding rhinology subspecialty interest, number of nasal operations performed per year, likelihood of packing for six common nasal procedures, and…
Packing and postoperative rhinoplasty management: a survey report.
TLDR
Investigating current postoperative practices in the United States, correlating the results with surgical education, practice type, and complication rates found a high percentage of private practice aesthetic surgeons continue to utilize nasal packing following rhinoplasty.
Effect of polyvinyl acetal sponge nasal packing on post-operative care of nasal polyposis patients: a randomised, controlled, partly blinded study
TLDR
No significant difference was found between polyvinyl acetal packed and non-packed groups, following endoscopic sinus surgery for nasal polyposis, and this confirms the findings of similar studies, and supports the reconsideration of routine post-operative packing in selected cases.
Outcomes Of Endoscopic Quilting Of Nasal Septum Versus Nasal Packing Following Septoplasty
TLDR
Pain is significantly lower in the Septal suture group as compared to the BIPP pack group and Septoplasty can be safely performed with Endoscopic quilting of nasal septum without BIPP nasal packing.
A study evaluating the effects of throat packs during nasal surgery: a randomised controlled trial
TLDR
The use of throats packs in nasal surgery does not confer PONV reduction benefit and the use of throat pack is associated with a small but statistically significant more throat pain in the initial recovery period from nasal operations.
The effectiveness of postoperative intervention in patients after rhinoplasty: a meta-analysis
TLDR
A systematic review with meta-analysis of the efficacy of postoperative care of edema and ecchymosis following rhinoplasty indicated that surgeons had a significant tendency to decrease intranasal packing.
[The influence of nasal packing on the quality of life in the early postoperative period following septoplastic surgery].
TLDR
It was shown that anterior nasal packing exerts the undesirable influence on the quality of life during the early postoperative period following septoplastic surgery whereas the use of the modified technique based on the application of a fibrin sealant as an alternative therapeutic modality significantly enhances the effectiveness of the treatment.
Effect of Aerosolized Fibrin Sealant on Hemostasis and Wound Healing after Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: A Prospective Randomized Study
TLDR
Compared with polyvinyl acetal sponge, aerosolized FS shows beneficial effects on hemostasis and wound healing after FESS and resulted in a high degree of patient satisfaction without additional morbidity.
Postoperative Care in Aesthetic Rhinoplasty Patients
TLDR
The outcome measures such as ROE, NOSE, or SCHNOS should be used 3 to 6 months after surgery and if the patient is closely followed‐up, then any unwanted complication or dissatisfaction can be solved after 6 to 12 months.
An appraisal of the utility or futility of ENT consultant postal questionnaires
TLDR
Although the quality of ENT postal questionnaire has improved since the original study, important recurring methodological flaws still exist and the poor utility of such questionnaires reflects the continued deficiencies in design quality.
Evaluation and reduction of nasal trauma.
TLDR
Clinical relevant information and pearls of management on nasal injury classification, age-specific concerns, secondary procedures, and nasal fracture grafting, will be addressed as well.

Nasal packing after routine nasal surgery—is it justified?
TLDR
Routine nasal packing, especially with BIPP, would seem difficult to justify in view of the increased pain levels and increased complications which occur without any demonstrable benefit in the majority of patients, therefore packing should be reserved for cases where there is concern about persistent haemorrhage.
Double-blind randomised controlled trial comparing Merocel with Rapid Rhino nasal packs after routine nasal surgery.
TLDR
Rapid Rhino (Goodman pack) is associated with significantly less pain on removal than Merocel pack, causes less bleeding and is not more painful whilst in-situ, and is recommended for use in routine nasal surgery.
Perioperative management of the sinus patient: a Canadian perspective.
TLDR
Considerable variations in clinical practices were identified among Canadian surgeons and continued efforts aimed at diminishing these variations through the establishment of evidence-based practice guidelines will assist in standardizing the care of these patients.

TLDR
The laryngeal depressor eliminates the need for having one of the assistants apply pressure to the larynx and allows the surgeon to concentrate more fully on the laser procedure.
Comparison of Suture and Nasal Packing in Rabbit Noses
TLDR
The study aimed to detect the changes in adult rabbit nasal septal tissues after application of nasal pack or trans‐septal suture as performed during septoplasty.

Septal suturing following nasal septoplasty, a valid alternative for nasal packing?
TLDR
The septal suturing technique is a valid alternative to intranasal packing following sePTal surgery and could be carried out on a day-surgery basis.
