Organotypic brain slices cultured on semi-porous membranes is an increasingly popular in vitro preparation for studying mechanisms of ischemic brain damage. To model in vivo hypoxia, cultured brain slices are exposed to anaerobic atmosphere by placing them into a special incubator.
