Extensive data concerning water discharge and suspended-sediment transport for many sand-be*d cross sections in the middle Rio Grande basin are analyzed. A discontinuity in the velocity-hydraulic-radius relations of these reaches is shown to occur, with velocity doubling for a constant depth. The roughness parameter, Chezy C, is relatively constant for discharges beyond the discontinuity, and mainly is a function of the size of bed material.
