We utilise multi-epoch MUSE spectroscopy to study binary stars in the core of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 3201. Our sample consists of 3553 stars with 54 883 spectra in total comprising 3200 main-sequence stars up to 4 magnitudes below the turn-off. Each star in our sample has between 3 and 63 (with a median of 14) reliable radial velocity measurements within five years of observations. We introduce a statistical method to determine the probability of a star showing radial velocity…
A stellar census in globular clusters with MUSE: multiple populations chemistry in NGC 2808
Context. Galactic globular clusters (GCs) are now known to host multiple populations displaying particular abundance variations. The different populations within a GC can be well distinguished
Central kinematics of the Galactic globular cluster M80
We use spectra observed with the integral-field spectrograph Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) to reveal the central kinematics of the Galactic globular cluster Messier 80 (M80, NGC 6093).
How stellar rotation shapes the colour−magnitude diagram of the massive intermediate-age star cluster NGC 1846
We present a detailed study of stellar rotation in the massive 1.5 Gyr old cluster NGC 1846 in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Similar to other clusters at this age, NGC 1846 shows an extended main
A stellar census in globular clusters with MUSE: A spectral catalogue of emission-line sources
Aims. Globular clusters produce many exotic stars due to a much higher frequency of dynamical interactions in their dense stellar environments. Some of these objects were observed together with
Spectroscopy of Binaries in Globular Clusters
The natural constants in the universe are adjusted so that dense and massive star forming regions can end up in gravitational bound star clusters, called globular clusters. These objects are found in
Leveraging HST with MUSE – I. Sodium abundance variations within the 2-Gyr-old cluster NGC 1978
Nearly all of the well studied ancient globular clusters (GCs), in the Milky Way and in nearby galaxies, show star-to-star variations in specific elements (e.g., He, C, N, O, Na, Al), known as
The binary content of multiple populations in NGC 3201
We investigate the binary content of the two stellar populations that coexist in the globular cluster NGC 3201. Previous studies of binary stars in globular clusters have reported higher binary
The WAGGS project-III. Discrepant mass-to-light ratios of Galactic globular clusters at high metallicity
Observed mass-to-light ratios (M/L) of metal-rich globular clusters (GCs) disagree with theoretical predictions. This discrepancy is of fundamental importance since stellar population models provide
The dynamics of the globular cluster NGC 3201 out to the Jacobi radius
As part of a chemo-dynamical survey of five nearby globular clusters with 2dF/AAOmega on the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT), we have obtained kinematic information for the globular cluster NGC
Exploring the role of binarity in the origin of the bimodal rotational velocity distribution in stellar clusters
Many young- and intermediate-age massive stellar clusters host bimodal distributions in the rotation rates of their stellar populations, with a dominant peak of rapidly rotating stars and a
