Receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK) and its cognate ligand (RANKL) is a member of the TNF superfamily of cytokines which is essential in osteobiology and its overexpression has been implicated in the pathogenesis of bone degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis.
