Von FRISCH'S discovery* of some of the methods by which bees communicate is of such importance that any details which can be added to his conclusions may be of value. We have therefore made a statistical analysis of some of his observations. This suggests further experiments, and poses certain questions which can reasonably be asked in research on communication between animals. We first make a historical observation.
