STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE To assess whether there is a difference in outcome between single-level discectomy at L4/L5 and L5/S1. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA There is sound biomechanical reasoning to suspect a difference between spinal levels.
