The genome of Methanopyrus kandleri was found to harbour a gene, fwuB, predicted to encode the catalytic subunit of a tungsten formylmethanofuran dehydrogenase with an active site selenocysteine, and a second gene, fwcB, encoding a tungsten formylmethanofuran dehydrogenase with an active site cysteine.
