Multichannel seismic data from the eastern parts of the Riiser-Larsen Sea have been analyzed with a sequence stratigraphic approach. The data set covers a wide bathymetric range from the lower continental slope to the abyssal plain. Four different sequences (termed RLS-A to RLS-D, from deepest to shallowest) are recognized within the sedimentary section. The RLS-A sequence encompasses the inferred pre-glacial part of the deposits. Initial phases of ice sheet arrival at the eastern Riiser-Larsen… Expand
Crustal structure and tectonic provinces of the Riiser-Larsen Sea area (East Antarctica): results of geophysical studies
About 16,000 km of multichannel seismic (MCS), gravity and magnetic data and 28 sonobuoys were acquired in the Riiser-Larsen Sea Basin and across the Gunnerus and Astrid Ridges, to study theirExpand
The Cosmonaut Sea Wedge
A set of multi-channel seismic profiles (∼15,000 km) is used to study the depositional evolution of the Cosmonaut Sea margin of East Antarctica. We recognize a regional sediment wedge, below theExpand
Cenozoic climate history from seismic reflection and drilling studies on the Antarctic continental margin
Seismic stratigraphic studies and scientific drilling of the Antarctic continental margin have yielded clues to the evolution of Cenozoic climates, depositional paleoenvironments andExpand
Chapter 22 High-Latitude Contourites
Publisher Summary This chapter provides an overview of the best-known Neogene and Quaternary glacigenic contourite deposits in both hemispheres. The Antarctic continental margin and the northernExpand
The Kongsfjorden Channel System offshore NW Svalbard: downslope sedimentary processes in a contour-current-dominated setting
Abstract Submarine channel systems on and off glaciated continental margins can be up to hundreds of kilometres long, tens of kilometres wide and hundreds of metres deep. They result from repeatedExpand
Seaward growth of Antarctic continental shelves since establishment of a continent-wide ice sheet: Patterns and mechanisms
Abstract The location and setting of the continental shelf break along the Antarctic continental shelves influences the paleoceanographic circulation patterns as well as sedimentation and ice sheetExpand
The Evolving Paleobathymetry of the Circum‐Antarctic Southern Ocean Since 34 Ma: A Key to Understanding Past Cryosphere‐Ocean Developments
The Southern Ocean is a key player in the climate, ocean and atmospheric system. As the only direct connection between all three major oceans since the opening of the Southern Ocean gateways, theExpand

Seismo-stratigraphic analysis of the Wilkes Land continental margin (East Antarctica): influence of glacially driven processes on the Cenozoic deposition
Abstract Multichannel seismic reflection data were collected from the Wilkes Land continental margin and particularly focusing on the lower rise area, by the international WilkEs basin GlAcialExpand
Ocean basins near the Scotia–Antarctic plate boundary: Influence of tectonics and paleoceanography on the Cenozoic deposits
The distribution of seismic units in deposits of the basins near the Antarctic–Scotia plate boundary is described based on the analysis of multichannel seismic reflection profiles. Five main seismicExpand
Seismic expression of glaciomarine deposits in the eastern Riiser Larsen Sea, Antarctica
Abstract By studying multichannel seismic data across the continental slope and rise of the eastern Riiser Larsen Sea and through a comparison with other East Antarctic continental margins, the baseExpand
Input of Glaciomarine Sediments along the East Antarctic Continental Margin; Depositional Processes on the Cosmonaut Sea Continental Slope and Rise and a Regional Acoustic Stratigraphic Correlation from 40° W to 80° E
Multichannel seismic reflection data from the Cosmonaut Sea margin of East Antarctica have been interpreted in terms of depositional processes in the continental slope and rise area. A major sedimentExpand
Sub-bottom profiling and sedimentological studies in the southern Weddell Sea, Antarctica: evidence for large-scale erosional/depositional processes
Abstract Low-frequency echo-sounder profiles (3.5 kHz and Parasound systems), surface sediments, and sediment cores were taken from the continental margin of the southern Weddell Sea during fourExpand
Major Neogene fluctuations of the East Antarctic ice sheet: Stratigraphic evidence from the Lambert Glacier region
Stratigraphic and sedimentological data are presented from a region likely to directly record the evolution of the East Antarctic ice sheet. Along the western margin of the Lambert graben, which nowExpand
Glaciomarine turbidite and current controlled deposits in Prydz Bay, Antarctica
Abstract A thick sequence (up to 2200 m) of presumed post late Eocene/early Oligocene glaciomarine sediments is inferred to be present on the Prydz Bay continental rise. In the absence of informationExpand
Miocene to Recent contourite drifts development in the northern Weddell Sea (Antarctica)
Abstract Multichannel and high-resolution seismic profiles complemented with swath bathymetry show a variety of contourite deposits in the northern Weddell Sea resulting from the interaction betweenExpand
The Crary Fan : a trough-mouth fan on the Weddell Sea continental margin, Antarctica
Abstract Multichannel seismic investigations show the presence of a large trough-mouth fan deposit on the continental margin in the southern Weddell Sea. A characteristic feature of the fan isExpand
