Molecules of astrocyte origin influence gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release and GnRH neuronal growth and differentiation. Furthermore, type 1 astrocytes express steroid receptors, presenting the possibility that steroid actions on GnRH neurons might occur via astrocytes.
