Swine dysentery (SD) is a mucohaemorrhagic colitis of pigs resulting from infection of the large intestine with the anaerobic intestinal spirochaete Brachyspira hyodysenteriae. Whole-cell bacterin vaccines are available to help control SD, but their performance has been inconsistent.
