Naturally occurring hybridisation between the introduced species Hymenachne amplexicaulis, a Weed of National Significance, and the Australian native species H. acutigluma is reported from two widely separated locations in tropical Australia. Molecular studies including RAPD analysis and DNA sequencing of the ITS region of each parent species and the putative cross confirm initial evidence for hybridisation based on gross morphology. The legislative implications of this are discussed and the…

The Genetic Relationships of Grevillea Hybrids Determined by RAPD Marker

Ten Grevillea hybrids were used in this study to evaluate the genetic relationships between hybrids and with their parents, and it was revealed that ‘Moonlight’, ‘Caloundra Gem”, and Little Pink Willie’ were clustered withGrevillea banksii.

This datasheet on Hymenachne amplexicaulis covers Identity, Overview, Distribution, Dispersal, Hosts/Species Affected, Diagnosis, Biology & Ecology, Environmental Requirements, Natural Enemies,

Threat abatement plan to reduce the impacts on northern Australia's biodiversity by the five listed grasses

This national threat abatement plan (TAP) has been developed to address the key threatening process (KTP) 'Ecosystem degradation, habitat loss and species decline due to invasion of northern

Stem aerenchyma as a character separating hymenachne and sacciolepis (Gramineae, Panicoideae)

A survey of both genera showed that aerenchyma fills the stem pith region of Hymenachne species but is absent or nearly so from Sacciolepis species, and the leaf epidermis ofHymanachne bears prickle cells, which have not been reported fromSaccio Lepis.

Molecular evidence for hybridization ofIlex x wandoensis (Aquifoliaceae) by RAPD analysis

Using molecular markers generated via random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), hybridization is discovered in populations of theI.

A molecular phylogeny of Panicum (Poaceae: Paniceae): tests of monophyly and phylogenetic placement within the Panicoideae.

The purpose of this research, based on molecular data of the chloroplast ndhF gene, is to test the monophyly of Panicum, to evaluate infrageneric classifications, and to propose a robust phylogenetic hypothesis.

Molecular and morphological phylogenetic analysis of Brachiaria and Urochloa (Poaceae).

The Biology of Australian Weeds 56. 'Hymenachne amplexicaulis' (Rudge) Nees

The review and analysis of the Australian weed commonly known as 'Olive' or Hymenachne amplexicaulis (Rudge) Nees is discussed. Details of its history, taxonomy, distribution, habitat, growth and

Natural hybridization between Phlomis lycia D. Don × P. bourgaei Boiss., (Lamiaceae) revealed by RAPD markers

Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA markers were used to assess the hybrid identity of individuals sampled as Phlomis × termessi Davis and their parents to find monomorphic markers and polymorhic markers observed in hybrid individuals.

IRIS NELSONII (IRIDACEAE): ORIGIN AND GENETIC COMPOSITION OF A HOMOPLOID HYBRID SPECIES.

Nuclear and chloroplast DNA variation was assayed for two populations of Louisiana irises that demonstrated extreme morphological variation and for a sample of the putative hybrid species, Iris nelsonii, demonstrating that the two morphologically variable populations were hybrid associations involving all three of these species and that all three species were involved in the origin of I. n Nelsonii.

Hybridization drives speciation in Gagea (Liliaceae)

Evidence of the hybrid origin of taxa within the section Gagea and the monophyletic clade of sections Didymobulbos and Fistulosae is found and Morph and karyologically differentiated Gageamegapolitana and G. pomeranica, adapted to synanthropic habitats, represent both hybrids of G. pratensis × G. lutea.

Extent and degree of hybridization between exotic (Spartina alterniflora) and native (S. foliosa) cordgrass (Poaceae) in California, USA determined by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPDs)

The spread of S. alterniflora and S. foliosa × altern iflora hybrids in California was determined and the degree of hybridization examined and the proliferation of cordgrass hybrids could grossly alter the character of the San Francisco Bay was examined.

Morphological and RAPD analysis of hybridization between Quercus affinis and Q. laurina (fagaceae), two Mexican red oaks.

Foliar variation followed a partially congruent pattern, but Q. laurina-like morphology predominated in some of the genetically intermediate populations, consistent with a hypothesis of secondary contact between the two oak species that has resulted in some differential introgression among markers.
