We give a relativistically covariant, wave-functional formulation of Bohm's quantum field theory for the scalar field based on a general foliation of spacetime by space-like hypersurfaces. The wave functional, which guides the evolution of the field, is spacetime-foliation independent but the field itself is not. Hence, in order to have a theory in which the field may be considered a beable, some extra rule must be given to determine the foliation. We suggest one such rule based on the…

Abstract. We propose a manifestly covariant canonical method of field quantization based on the classical De Donder-Weyl covariant canonical formulation of field theory. Owing to covariance, the space…

A Relativistic Hidden-Variable Interpretation for the Massive Vector Field Based on Energy-Momentum Flows

This paper is motivated by the desire to formulate a relativistically covariant hidden-variable particle trajectory interpretation of the quantum theory of the vector field that is formulated in such…

Can Bohmian mechanics be made relativistic?

- Physics, MedicineProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences
- 2014

It is argued that the possibility that, instead of positing it as extra structure, the required foliation could be covariantly determined by the wave function allows for the formulation of Bohmian theories that seem to qualify as fundamentally Lorentz invariant.

Boson-Fermion Unification, Superstrings, and Bohmian Mechanics

- Physics
- 2009

Bosonic and fermionic particle currents can be introduced in a more unified way, with the cost of introducing a preferred spacetime foliation. Such a unified treatment of bosons and fermions…

D ec 2 01 3 Can Bohmian mechanics be made relativistic ?

- 2013

In relativistic space-time, Bohmian theories can be formulated by introducing a privileged foliation of space-time. The introduction of such a foliation – as extra absolute space-time structure –…

Abstract The Bohmian interpretation of the many-fingered time (MFT) Tomonaga–Schwinger formulation of quantum field theory (QFT) describes MFT fields, which provides a covariant Bohmian…

On the Merits of the “ Unromantic Pictures ”

I am concerned with two views of quantum mechanics that John S. Bell called " unromantic " : spontaneous wave function collapse and Bohmian mechanics. I discuss some of their merits and report about…

The Klein-Gordon equation is interpreted in the de Broglie-Bohm manner as a single-particle relativistic quantum mechanical equation that defines unique time-like particle trajectories. The particle…
