Ultra-compact X-ray binaries consist of a neutron star or black hole that accretes material from a white dwarf-donor star. The ultra-compact nature is expressed in very short orbital periods of less than 1 hour. In the case of 4U 0614+091 oxygen-rich material from a CO or ONe white dwarf is flowing to the neutron star. This oxygen- rich disc can reflect X-rays emitted by the neutron star giving a characteristic emissio n spectrum. We have analyzed highresolution RGS and broad band EPIC spectra… Expand

X-ray reflection in oxygen-rich accretion discs of ultracompact X-ray binaries
We present spectroscopic X-ray data of two candidate ultra-compact X-ray binaries: 4U 0614+091 and 4U 1543−624. We confirm the presence of a broad O VIII Lyα reflection line (at≈ 18 A) usingExpand
The similarity of broad iron lines in X-ray binaries and active galactic nuclei
We have compared the 2001 XMM–Newton spectra of the stellar mass black hole binary XTE J1650−500 and the active galaxy MCG–6-30-15, focusing on the broad, excess emission features at ∼4–7 keVExpand
On the ultra-compact nature of the neutron star system 1RXS J170854.4−321857: insights from X-ray spectroscopy
The relatively small family of ultra-compact X-ray binary systems is of great interest for many areas of astrophysics. We report on a detailed X-ray spectral study of the persistent neutron starExpand
X-ray detection of warm ionized matter in the Galactic halo

We present a new and complete library of synthetic spectra for modeling the component of emission that is reflected from an illuminated accretion disk. The spectra were computed using an updatedExpand
On the Impact of an Intermediate Duration X-Ray Burst on the Accretion Environment in IGR J17062–6143
We report on a spectroscopic analysis of the X-ray emission from IGR J17062−6143 in the aftermath of its 2020 June intermediate duration Type I X-ray burst. Using the Neutron Star InteriorExpand
Long-term luminosity behavior of 14 ultracompact X-ray binaries
Context. X-ray binaries are usually divided in persistent and transient sources. For ultracompact X-ray binaries (UCXBs), the mass transfer rate is expected to be a strong function of orbital period,Expand
A Sparkler in the Fireworks Galaxy: Discovery of an Ultraluminous X-Ray Transient with a Strong Oxygen Line in NGC 6946
We discovered and studied an ultraluminous X-ray source (CXOU J203451.1+601043) that appeared in the spiral galaxy NGC 6946 at some point between 2008 February and 2012 May, and has remained atExpand
NuSTAR Observations of the Accreting Atolls GX 3+1, 4U 1702-429, 4U 0614+091, and 4U 1746-371
Atoll sources are accreting neutron star (NS) low-mass X-ray binaries. We present a spectral analysis of four persistent atoll sources (GX 3+1, 4U 1702$-$429, 4U 0614+091, and 4U 1746$-$371) observedExpand
Deep Chandra observations of the NGC 4472 globular cluster black hole XMMU 122939.7+075333: short-term variability from the first globular cluster black hole binary
In this paper we discuss the luminosity modulations and spectral analysis results of the recent deep observations of XMMU 122939.7+075333, the rst black hole discovered in a globular cluster. TheExpand

Relativistically broadened iron line in the Suzaku observation of the neutron star X-ray binary 4U 1705−44
The X-ray spectra of accreting compact objects often exhibit discrete emission features associated with fluorescent emission in the accretion disc, the strongest of which is the Fe Kα fluorescenceExpand
Accretion Disk Corona Line Emission from X0614+091
The low-mass X-ray binary X0614+091 was observed on 3 days in 1979 with the Einstein Observatory solid state spectrometer and the monitor proportional counter. During the observation with the highestExpand
Soft X-ray emission lines from photoionized accretion discs: constraints on their strength and width
We consider the properties of soft X-ray emission lines in the reprocessed emission from a photoionized accretion disc. Observations of these lines will be important in determining the ionizationExpand
X-ray spectroscopy of NGC 5548
