In the present work, we propose a novel lumped-parameter model for the description of the aortic valve dynamics, including elastic effects associated to the leaflets’ curvature. The introduction of a lumped-parameter model based on momentum balance entails an easier calibration of the parameter models, that are instead typically numerous in phenomenologicalbased models. This model is coupled with 3D Navier-Stokes equations describing the blood flow, where the valve surface is represented by a…

A patient-specific aortic valve model based on moving resistive immersed implicit surfaces
TLDR
This computational framework, applied to a patient-specific geometry and data, allows to simulate the movement of the valve, the sharp pressure jump occurring across the leaflets, and the blood flow pattern inside the aorta.
A robust and efficient valve model based on resistive immersed surfaces.
TLDR
This method enables significant computational savings compared with complete fluid-structure interaction and contact modeling, while maintaining realistic three-dimensional velocity and pressure distributions near the valve, which is not possible from lumped parameter modeling.

TLDR
This work describes the application of an adaptive, staggered-grid version of the IB method to the three-dimensional simulation of the fluid dynamics of the aortic heart valve, and uses this model and method to simulate aorti valve dynamics over multiple cardiac cycles.
Transient fluid–structure coupling for simulation of a trileaflet heart valve using weak coupling
TLDR
An arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian kinematical description together with an appropriate fluid grid was used for the coupling strategy with the structural domain for the modeling of an aortic trileaflet heart valve at the initial opening stage.
A 3D-1D-0D Computational Model for the Entire Cardiovascular System
TLDR
A computational model of the entire closed cardiovascular system is established that forms a closed loop network capable of taking into account the interaction between the global circulation (1D-0D Models) and the local hemodynamics (3D models).
Numerical Methods for Fluid–Structure Interaction Models of Aortic Valves
In the recent years, fluid structure interaction (FSI) models of the aortic valve and root have become increasingly common for two main reasons. The medical reason is that millions of patients suffer
Three-Dimensional Fluid-Structure Interaction Simulation of Bileaflet Mechanical Heart Valve Flow Dynamics
TLDR
A three-dimensional unsteady flow analysis past bileaflet valve prosthesis in the mitral position is presented incorporating a fluid-structure interaction algorithm for leaflet motion during the valve-closing phase.
Asymptotic Model of Fluid–Tissue Interaction for Mitral Valve Dynamics
TLDR
This work introduces a parametric model of the mitral valve geometry, whose motion is described in the asymptotic limit under the assumption that it moves with the flow, without any additional resistance other than that given by its shape, and without the need to specify its material properties.
