A randomized clinical trial evaluated the efficacy of multisystemic therapy (MST) versus usual community services (UCS) for 48 juvenile sexual offenders at high risk of committing additional serious crimes. Results from multiagent assessment batteries conducted before and after treatment showed that MST was more effective than UCS in improving key family, peer, and academic correlates of juvenile sexual offending and in ameliorating adjustment problems in individual family members. TLDR
The findings suggest that family- and community-based interventions, especially those with an established evidence-base in treating adolescent antisocial behavior, hold considerable promise in meeting the clinical needs of juvenile sexual offenders.
Effects of Multisystemic Therapy on Caregivers of Serious Juvenile Offenders: A 20-Year Follow-Up to a Randomized Clinical Trial
TLDR
The only follow-up to date of caregivers in an MST clinical trial demonstrates the broader clinical benefits of a family-based treatment for serious juvenile offenders and demonstrates the favorable long-term effects of MST on caregiver criminality and civil suits were mediated by improved family relations during treatment.

TLDR
It is demonstrated that a family-based treatment such as MST-PSB can produce lasting economic benefits with juvenile sexual offenders and policymakers and public service agencies should consider these findings when making decisions about interventions for this challenging clinical population.
Mediators of change for multisystemic therapy with juvenile sexual offenders.
TLDR
Analysis showed that favorable MST effects on youth antisocial behavior and deviant sexual interest/risk behaviors were mediated by increased caregiver follow-through on discipline practices as well as decreased caregiver disapproval of and concern about the youth's bad friends during the follow-up.
Multisystemic Therapy for Serious Juvenile Offenders: From Development to Dissemination
Multisystemic therapy (MST) is an intensive family- and community-based treatment approach that was originally developed in the late 1970s to address major limitations of existing mental health
Two-year follow-up of a randomized effectiveness trial evaluating MST for juveniles who sexually offend.
TLDR
For the most part, the 2-year follow-up findings from this effectiveness study are consistent with favorable MST long-term results with JSO in efficacy research, however, decreases in rearrests were not observed.
The Impact of Family Service Involvement on Treatment Completion and General Recidivism Among Male Youthful Sexual Offenders
Few studies have systematically evaluated outcomes of services for youth with sexually problematic behaviors. Evaluations are particularly sparse for youth receiving family-oriented treatment despite

Psychological Treatment of Sexual Offenders Against Children
TLDR
A meta-analysis of the available research cannot establish any effect of treatment on sexual offenders against children (SOAC), and only a tiny fraction of studies meet a minimum of scientific standards.

The Effectiveness of Sexual Offender Treatment for Juveniles as Measured by Recidivism: A Meta-analysis
TLDR
A comparison of odds ratios by quality of study design indicated that higher quality designs yielded better effect sizes, though the difference between groups was not significant, and individual study characteristics suggest that results should be interpreted with caution.
Multisystemic Treatment of Adolescent Sexual Offenders
TLDR
Comparisons showed that significantly fewer subjects in the MST condition had been rearrested for sexual crimes and that the frequency of sexual rearrests was significantly lower in theMST condition than in the IT condition.
Cost-benefit analysis of multisystemic therapy with serious and violent juvenile offenders.
TLDR
The economic benefits of MST, as well as its clinical effectiveness, should be considered by policymakers and the public at large in the selection of interventions for serious juvenile offenders.
