This paper describes a qualitative approach to quant i tat ive recovery of shape and pose of a straight homogeneous generalized cyl inder (hereafter SHGC) based on a “weak Lambert ian assumpiion” which relaxes the strict cosine law of L a m b e d i a n reflection model. The method does not need t o know the lighting condition or surface albedos. First, the image of the projection of the axis of an SHGC i s extracted.
