Motivated by the precedent study of Ordenes-Huanca and Velazquez (2016 J. Stat. Mech. 093303), we address the study of a simple model of a pure non-neutral plasma: a system of identical non-relativistic charged particles confined under an external harmonic field with frequency . We perform the equilibrium thermo-statistical analysis in the framework of continuum approximation. This study reveals the existence of two asymptotic limits: the known Brillouin steady state at zero temperature, and…

Counter differential rigid-rotation equilibrium of electrically non-neutral two-fluid plasma with finite pressure

We derive the two-dimensional counter-differential rotation equilibria of two-component plasmas, composed of both ion and electron ($e^-$) clouds with finite temperatures, for the first time. In the

Thermo-statistical study of evaporation effects in a non neutral plasma under an imperfect magnetic confinement

Experimental studies of non-neutral plasmas in magnetic traps undergo, in some degree of affectation, the incidence of evaporation. For example, the existence of a finite threshold energy εc for the

EQUILIBRIUM AND DYNAMICAL PROPERTIES OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL N-BODY SYSTEMS WITH LONG-RANGE ATTRACTIVE INTERACTIONS

A system of N classical particles in a two-dimensional periodic cell interacting via a long-range attractive potential is studied numerically and theoretically. For low energy density U a collapsed

Strong Chaos in N-body problem and Microcanonical Thermodynamics of Collisionless Self Gravitating Systems

An effective Microcanonical Thermodynamics of self gravitating systems(SGS) is proposed, analyzing the well known obstacles thought to prevent the formulation of a rigorous Statistical Mechanics

The relationship between dynamic instability and curvature properties of the configuration space manifold is the main concern of this paper and the possibility of misleading conclusions that might be drawn from the geometric approach is warned.

Observations make possible the construction of a comprehensive thermodynamic description of two-dimensional turbulence, and the maximization of the generalized entropy with $q=\frac{1}{2}$ for the pure-electron plasma column leads to precisely the same profiles predicted by the restricted minimum enstrophy theory.

Trapped nonneutral plasmas, liquids, and crystals (the thermal equilibrium states)

Plasmas consisting exclusively of particles with a single sign of charge (e.g., pure electron plasmas and pure ion plasmas) can be confined by static electric and magnetic fields (in a Penning trap)

Hydrodynamic relaxation of an electron plasma to a near-maximum entropy state.

Analysis of dynamics of a pure electron plasma in a Malmberg-Penning trap provides evidence that 2D electron fluid relaxation in a turbulent regime is governed by principles of maximum entropy.
