The obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a sleep disorder associated with excessive day-time sleepiness; sleep fragmentation; intermittent hypoxia; and increased risk for diurnal hypertension, myocardial infarction, ventricular failure, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac dysrhythmias, and stroke [1].
