The "Spanish Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet" (SKMD) has been shown to promote potential therapeutic properties for the metabolic syndrome. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential therapeutic properties under free-living conditions of the SKMD in patients with metabolic syndrome (following the International Diabetes Federation consensus guidelines) over a 12-week period. A prospective study was carried out in 22 obese subjects with metabolic syndrome (12 men and 10 women) with the…

The effect of the Spanish Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: a pilot study.
TLDR
The SKMD could be an effective and safe way to treat patients suffering from MS and the associated nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, according to the International Diabetes Federation consensus guidelines.
A pilot case study on the impact of a self-prescribed ketogenic diet on biochemical parameters and running performance in healthy and physically active individuals
TLDR
There seems to be an impact on the blood lipid profile that could be considered problematic with respect to cardiovascular disease risk, however, the predictive role of cholesterol levels alone in individuals undergoing regular physical activity remains to be elucidated.
Implications of the Ketogenic Diet on Metabolic Syndrome
TLDR
A review of the literature regarding MetS, the KD, and the implications of the KD as a treatment for MetS indicates the validity and the need for further research on the KD and its potential to address MetS and MetS risk factors.
Effect of Ketogenic Diets and Intermittent Fasting on Obese patients
TLDR
The blood analysis results showed that high significant decrease in TC, TG and Hb A1c, and significant increase in HDL and RBC, it also recorded a slight increase in LDL and WBC, and it is recommended to influence applying ketogenic diets with intermittent fasting for positive and clear impact on anthropometric measurements and improving blood measurements.
The use of nutritional supplements to induce ketosis and reduce symptoms associated with keto-induction: a narrative review
TLDR
There is a clear ketogenic effect of supplemental MCTs; however, it is unclear whether they independently improve time to NK and reduce symptoms of keto-induction.
Health consequences of using special diets with restricted carbohydrate consumption
TLDR
The basis of any reduction diet must be a reduced energy supply, which can be achieved in a variety of ways, which are designed to facilitate its implementation by patients, as well as to have the most beneficial effect on their impaired metabolism.
Nutritional Management of Insulin Resistance in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
TLDR
The objectives of this review are to provide an overview of NAFLD in the context of insulin resistance, and provide a rationale for applying relevant aspects of the ADA recommendations to the nutritional management ofNAFLD.
New Perspectives on Dietary-derived Treatments and Food Safety—Antinomy in a New Era
TLDR
The government should put in a greater effort in enforcing food safety by improving the surveillance mechanism and exerting highest standards of quality control for foods.
The therapeutic potential of a calorie-restricted ketogenic diet for the management of Leber hereditary optic neuropathy
TLDR
It is proposed that a calorie-restricted ketogenic diet has the potential to enhance mitochondrial bioenergetic capacity and should be explored as a potential therapeutic option for treating LHON.

Spanish Ketogenic Mediterranean diet: a healthy cardiovascular diet for weight loss
TLDR
The SKMD is safe, an effective way of losing weight, promoting non-atherogenic lipid profiles, lowering blood pressure and improving fasting blood glucose levels, and future research should include a larger sample size, a longer term use and a comparison with other ketogenic diets.
Adherence to the Mediterranean diet and risk of metabolic syndrome and its components.
Mediterranean diet and metabolic syndrome: a cross-sectional study in the Canary Islands
TLDR
Some components of the Mediterranean diet showed a protective effect on the MS and its components, and fruit intake showed a significative protective effect over high Homeostasis Model Assessment index.
A low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet to treat type 2 diabetes
TLDR
The LCKD improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes such that diabetes medications were discontinued or reduced in most participants.
[Effect of omega-3 fatty acids on the serum lipid profile and microcirculation in patients with metabolic syndrome and hypertensive disease].
TLDR
It is concluded that correction of omega-3 PUFAs deficiency in patients with HA and MS reduces hyperlipidemia, has moderate antihypertensive effect, improves endothelial function and microcirculation, and gives reason to recommend them for the treatment of MS.
Medicinal agents in the metabolic syndrome.
TLDR
The metabolic syndrome has become a worldwide health problem and the investigation of agents that may deal with its more serious aspects is an important medical field for research.
Intra-abdominal fat is a major determinant of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria for the metabolic syndrome.
TLDR
Although insulin resistance and central body fat are both associated with the metabolic syndrome, IAF is independently associated with all of the criteria, suggesting that it may have a pathophysiological role.
Toward improved management of NIDDM: A randomized, controlled, pilot intervention using a lowfat, vegetarian diet.
TLDR
The use of a low-fat, vegetarian diet in patients with NIDDM was associated with significant reductions in fasting serum glucose concentration and body weight in the absence of recommendations for exercise.
Fish Oil and the Management of Hypertriglyceridemia
TLDR
Patients with hypertriglyceridemia have been shown to respond well to the use of omega-3 fatty acids even when used in conjunction with statins where greater improvements in the lipid profile were found as compared to treatment with statin alone.
