The combination of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interferon-gamma has synergistic bioactivity in numerous preclinical model systems. We have tested this potential synergism in vivo by administration of both cytokines to patients with advanced cancer using overlapping 24-hour continuous intravenous (IV) infusions in a phase I trial.
