A rigorous numerical model of the diffusion-controlled peritectoid transformation based on the isoconcentration contour migration method is presented here. The model is capable of considering the concentration dependence of diffusivity in the participating phases. The predictions from the model show an encouraging agreement with the experimentally determined peritectoid kinetics in the Zr-Al system and dissolution kinetics in the Ni-Mo diffusion couple. An extensive parametric study through the…

Formation of ω -Al7Cu2Fe phase during laser processing of quasicrystal-forming Al–Cu–Fe alloy
The formation of an ω-Al7Cu2Fe phase during laser cladding of quasicrystal-forming Al65Cu23.3Fe11.7 alloy on a pure aluminium substrate is reported. This phase is found to nucleate at the periphery

Formation and stability of a nitride with the structure of beta manganese in Ni-Cr-N ternary system
A nitride with the metal-atom arrangement of β manganese, which is designated as π phase, was confirmed to exist as an equilibrium phase in the ternary Cr-Ni-N system. A Cr-40 mass pct Ni binary
Hydrogen-induced suppression of the peritectoid reaction of alpha -Pd+Pd3Gd (or H-Pd5RE (RE identical to Sm or Eu)) to Pd7RE (RE identical to Gd, Sm or Eu)
The peritectoid reaction of alpha -Pd+Pd3Gd (or H-Pd5RE (RE identical to Sm or Eu)) to Pd7RE (RE identical to Gd, Sm or Eu) in Pd-Gd, Pd-Sm and Pd-Eu alloys is found to be suppressed after the slow
Observations of an ordered Pd7Eu phase in Pd-Eu alloys
The Pd-Eu alloys containing 6.1 to 14.3 at% Eu have been studied by metallographic examinations, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopic observations and electrical resistance measurements. The
