The physical properties of small single-walled vesicles composed of the zwitterionic phospholipid sphingomyelin have been studied using 1H and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The temperature variation of proton line widths and spin-lattice relaxation times and the chemical shift behavior for sphingomyelin vesicles are compared with results previously determined for phosphatidylcholine vesicles.
