Abstract. A novel gram-positive, strictly aerobic, motile, sporulating, and facultatively alkaliphilic bacterium designated KSM-KP43 was isolated from a sample of soil. The results of 16S rRNA sequence analysis placed this bacterium in a cluster with Bacillus halmapalus. However, the level of the DNA–DNA hybridization of KSM-KP43 with B. halmapalus was less than 25%. Moreover, the G+C contents of the genomic DNA were 41.6 mol% for KSM-KP43 and 38.6 mol% for B. halmapalus. Because there were…
Bacillus marmarensis sp. nov., an alkaliphilic, protease-producing bacterium isolated from mushroom compost.
TLDR
According to the polyphasic characterization, strain GMBE 72(T), isolated from mushroom compost from Yalova, represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus, for which the name Bacillus marmarensis sp.
Production of Extracellular Halo-alkaline Protease from a Newly Isolated Haloalkaliphilic Bacillus sp. Isolated from Seawater in Western India
TLDR
A substantial level of extracellular alkaline protease was produced by Po2, which corresponded with the growth and reached a maximum level during the stationary phase at 24 h, and thereafter remained nearly static at optimal level till 36 h.
Studies on Alkaline Serine Protease Produced by Bacillus clausii GMBE 22
TLDR
AP22 has good pH stability compared with the alkaline proteases belonging to other strains of Bacillus clausii reported in the literature and its complete inhibition by phenylmethanesulfonylfluoride (PMSF) justified that it is a serine alkalinerotease.
A novel subtilase with NaCl-activated and oxidant-stable activity from Virgibacillus sp. SK37
TLDR
The stability towards H2O2 and moderately halo- and thermo-tolerant properties of the AprX-SK37 enzyme are attractive for various biotechnological applications.
Cold-adaptive alkaline protease from the psychrophilic Planomicrobium sp. 547: enzyme characterization and gene cloning
TLDR
A psychrophilic bacterium strain 547 producing cold-adaptive alkaline protease was isolated from the deep sea sediment of Prydz Bay,Antarctica and phylogenetic analysis of the AA sequence indicated that the protease belonged to the subtilisin family.
Characterization of a new oxidant-stable serine protease isolated by functional metagenomics
TLDR
A novel serine protease gene, SBcas3.3, was identified by functional screening of a forest-soil metagenomic library on agar plates supplemented with AZCL-casein and displayed oxidant stability, a feature particularly sought in the detergent and bleaching industries.
Identification of Alkaliphilic Bacillus Species Isolated from Lake Van and Its Surroundings by Computerized Analysis of Extracellular Protein Profiles
TLDR
The research showed that extracellular protein profiles obtained by SDS-PAGE provide an effective approach to the investigation of taxonomic relationships within native alkaliphilic Bacillus isolates and other Bacillus species.
Characterization of Thermostable Serine Alkaline Protease from an Alkaliphilic Strain Bacillus pumilus MCAS8 and Its Applications
TLDR
Wash performance analysis of enzyme revealed that it could effectively remove blood stains from the cotton fabric, thus making it suitable to use as an effective detergent additive, and exhibited promising result in the dehairing of goat skin.
A new subtilisin family: nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of new high-molecular-mass alkaline proteases from Bacillus spp.
Six genes encoding high-molecular-mass subtilisins (HMSs) of alkaliphilic Bacillus spp. were cloned and sequenced. Their open reading frames of 2,394–2,424 bp encoded prosubtilisins of 798–808 amino

Bacillus horti sp. nov., a new gram-negative alkaliphilic bacillus.
TLDR
Based on the morphological and physiological characteristics, as well as phylogenetic position as determined by 16S rDNA analysis and DNA-DNA relatedness data, it is concluded that these isolates should be designated as a new species, for which the name Bacillus horti is proposed.
Bacillus cohnii sp. nov., a new, obligately alkaliphilic, oval-spore-forming Bacillus species with ornithine and aspartic acid instead of diaminopimelic acid in the cell wall.
TLDR
Low homology values with the type strains of validly published Bacillus species with similar G+C contents suggest that these strains belong to a hitherto undescribed species for which the name Bacillus cohnii is proposed.
Novel oxidatively stable subtilisin-like serine proteases from alkaliphilic Bacillus spp.: enzymatic properties, sequences, and evolutionary relationships.
TLDR
It is proposed that these novel proteases from alkaliphilic strains of Bacillus exhibiting resistance to oxidative inactivation be categorized as a new class of subtilisins, named oxidatively stable, alkaline protease.
Phenetic diversity of alkaliphilic Bacillus strains: proposal for nine new species
TLDR
One hundred and nineteen strains of alkaliphilic and alkalitolerant, aerobic endospore-forming bacteria were examined for 47 physiological and biochemical characters, and DNA base composition, and nine of the remainder are proposed as new species.

TLDR
The cell surface may play a key role in keeping the intracellular pH value in the range between 7 and 8.5, allowing alkaliphiles to thrive in alkaline environments, although adaptation mechanisms have not yet been clarified.
Bacillus haloalkaliphilus sp. nov.
