Stromal-derived factor 1 (SDF-1) is a chemokine with important functions in development and postnatal tissue homeostasis. SDF-1 signaling via the G-protein-coupled receptor CXCR4 regulates the recruitment of stem and precursor cells to support tissue-specific repair or regeneration.
