The EDS (early-onset diabetes in suncus) colony has been developed as a new closed breeding colony of the musk shrew (Suncus murinus, Insectivora) exhibiting a high incidence of spontaneous diabetes mellitus. We investigated the characteristic features of diabetic shrews in this colony.
