The family Atorellidae (Class Scyphozoa, Order Coronata) is distinct from all other coronates in having hexamerous symmetry superimposed on the typical scyphozoan tetramerous symmetry. All atorellid medusae (this monotypic family repiesented only by the genus Atorella) have six tentacles, six rhopalia, and six pairs of lappets in addition to having a tetramerous manubrial system with four groups of gastric cirri.
