A new species of pontoniine shrimp, Cuapetes takedai sp. nov., is described and illustrated on the basis of five specimens from Suruga Bay, Honshu, Japan. The new species is closely related to C. nilandensis (Borradaile) on account of the lack of meral and ischial distoventral teeth on the second pereiopod and the presence of elongate distoventral spines on the propodi of the ambulatory pereiopods, but can be readily distinguished from the latter species by the lack of a supraorbital spine and… CONTINUE READING
